Today I debuted a new line of jewelry in my <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/ArtsDesireGlass">Etsy shop</a> that has a clean, modern look that I'm hoping you will enjoy as much as I do.<div><br /></div><div>As you can probably tell, I love working with color and one night as I was listening to the rain outside I started thinking about puddles of color and how I could represent that in my pieces. Soon I started making 'buttons' of all kinds of colors and arranging them in little pools. After some trial and error, I came up with several designs. The first of which I'm sharing today.</div><div><br /></div><div>I think these pieces can really relate to a lot of things in our modern world. Are they planets in orbit? Molecules forming bonds? Or simply colorful drops of paint on a canvas? Tell me what you see when you look at these pieces, I would love to hear!</div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><a href="javascript:window.location = 'http://www.socialmarker.com/?link='+encodeURIComponent (location.href)+'&title='+encodeURIComponent( document.title);"><img border="0" src="http://www.socialmarker.com/bookmark.gif"/></a><noscript><a href="http://www.socialmarker.com">Social Bookmarking</a></noscript></div>KeeperEdgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04429714120001588915noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-725508993299322222.post-39215456673864541982010-07-31T20:09:00.003-05:002010-07-31T20:13:19.838-05:00Back at it...Well it's been over a year since I posted on here. I guess time flies when you're...well, whatever. But it looks like I'm going to have some more time to devote to my glass these days so I'll be looking to post here more frequently. In between kiln firings, that is. :-) I'm excited to be able to spend more time creating and look forward to sharing it with you!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><a href="javascript:window.location = 'http://www.socialmarker.com/?link='+encodeURIComponent (location.href)+'&title='+encodeURIComponent( document.title);"><img border="0" src="http://www.socialmarker.com/bookmark.gif"/></a><noscript><a href="http://www.socialmarker.com">Social Bookmarking</a></noscript></div>KeeperEdgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04429714120001588915noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-725508993299322222.post-73634662409072983972009-06-17T15:20:00.003-05:002009-06-17T16:18:25.119-05:00One Lovely Blog Award!<span class="Apple-style-span" style=" color: rgb(255, 255, 255); line-height: 17px; font-family:Verdana, sans-serif;font-size:11px;"><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#000000;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">I had a comment on yesterday's post from </span></span><a href="http://sudsnsuch.blogspot.com/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">A</span></span></a></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#000000;"><a href="http://sudsnsuch.blogspot.com/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">ngie</span></span></a></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#000000;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"> of </span></span><a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5156001"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">A</span></span></a></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#000000;"><a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5156001"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">ngie's Suds 'N' Such</span></span></a></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#000000;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">, who had chosen my blog to receive the "Lovely Blog Award"! Although it just opened in May, I had already heard lots of great things and was excited to see it for myself. I must admit, I was so taken with the building itself that my interest in the collections almost became secondary! The artwork I had seen it before, but this building... it's amazing! Built by Pritzker Prize-winning architect <a href="http://www.artic.edu/aic/collections/exhibitions/modernwing/architect">Renzo Piano</a>, it is light, airy, open and crisp. You are truly looking at works of art while standing in a work of art!<div><br /></div><div>Diffuse natural light bathes everything in the building. The exterior glass walls and roof are covered with louvers which provide wonderful lighting conditions for the artwork and the interior glass walls have pull down shades which can be adjusted in the galleries during different times of day. </div><div><br /></div><div>The main corridor is breathtaking and open to the top floor of the building with a floating cantilever staircase and balconies on the north side. But for me, the icing is literally on the top of the cake. The third floor galleries house the <a href="http://www.artic.edu/aic/collections/exhibitions/modernwing/modeurope">Modern European</a> collection and seeing the likes of Matisse, Picasso, Mondrian, Kandinsky and Dali in this setting took the experience to a whole new level. Between the canvasses of these great artists are picture-perfect views of the city and Millennium Park and above you, the architectural interest of the louvered roof - also known as the "Flying Carpet".</div><div><br /></div><div>I was so absorbed in the experience it didn't even occur to me to take any pictures. But it's better that you go see it for yourself! If you can't, be sure to check out the <a href="http://www.artic.edu/aic/collections/exhibitions/modernwing">Art Institute website</a> and see what they have to say about it. You'll be impressed with what you see.</div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><a href="javascript:window.location = 'http://www.socialmarker.com/?link='+encodeURIComponent (location.href)+'&title='+encodeURIComponent( document.title);"><img border="0" src="http://www.socialmarker.com/bookmark.gif"/></a><noscript><a href="http://www.socialmarker.com">Social Bookmarking</a></noscript></div>KeeperEdgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04429714120001588915noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-725508993299322222.post-12581915516649942122009-06-01T15:30:00.005-05:002009-06-01T15:45:55.153-05:00Something Different - Learning to Wire Wrap<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioTGYVToJVml-fWdd-62mEgMFXgGbt0JBde8NYDgETFnYPTn4eDTJVGJ7Dy1OwTvb1uSjlBwlSlydsNZYyi0kFYW-8hFvmZiwo9cwQQ0IrQ2fsKc_3IjFxBbNtR-Ozc8Cq2S0e8mDmCoQX/s1600-h/WireWrapped-0.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioTGYVToJVml-fWdd-62mEgMFXgGbt0JBde8NYDgETFnYPTn4eDTJVGJ7Dy1OwTvb1uSjlBwlSlydsNZYyi0kFYW-8hFvmZiwo9cwQQ0IrQ2fsKc_3IjFxBbNtR-Ozc8Cq2S0e8mDmCoQX/s320/WireWrapped-0.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5342462133496921586" /></a>This weekend I got to try something different. I took a glass pendant wire wrapping class at my local glass shop, <a href="http://alpinestainedglass.net/">Alpine Stained Glass</a>. Last year the instructor - Jeanne - offered a fusing glass where I really learned a lot and I had a feeling that I would soon be hooked on this as well. We started out with some copper wire for practice but we quickly got the hang of it and selected our own cabochons to work with for a finished product. The pattern she taught us was fairly basic and a great one for beginners. And boy, there's a real 'wow' factor to doing this! After laying the ground work for the wrap, you place the cabochon into the wire and suddenly you're working on something beautiful! I'm thrilled with the piece that I made and have already ordered supplies to do my own at home. Now, I'll just have to keep myself busy with glass until it gets here!<div><br /></div><div>What do you think of my first attempt? I'm excited to keep working and learning how to avoid tool marks and trying different patterns. Keep your eyes on <a href="http://artsdesireglass.etsy.com">my Etsy shop</a> because I'm hoping some of these will make an appearance in the coming weeks!</div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><a href="javascript:window.location = 'http://www.socialmarker.com/?link='+encodeURIComponent (location.href)+'&title='+encodeURIComponent( document.title);"><img border="0" src="http://www.socialmarker.com/bookmark.gif"/></a><noscript><a href="http://www.socialmarker.com">Social Bookmarking</a></noscript></div>KeeperEdgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04429714120001588915noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-725508993299322222.post-18454775916894897482009-05-27T15:47:00.008-05:002009-05-27T16:12:25.655-05:00At Work in My Studio<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSEe9EnNhSHZCuNuLyA4HGA-rXOiWFpi6TtfiiOvH12AaQqfDw0TRHXFUWhkqsNd0He-hZ4fQqC2Ooj_AgPkDNSB62BQ8GSz9dQHq2P-pd6fhmhiwHWhbrB50wv5NKG7TGjXt9l606LS8E/s1600-h/IMG_4398_2.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 213px; text-align: center; " src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSEe9EnNhSHZCuNuLyA4HGA-rXOiWFpi6TtfiiOvH12AaQqfDw0TRHXFUWhkqsNd0He-hZ4fQqC2Ooj_AgPkDNSB62BQ8GSz9dQHq2P-pd6fhmhiwHWhbrB50wv5NKG7TGjXt9l606LS8E/s320/IMG_4398_2.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5340608985093442050" /></a><div><div style="text-align: left;">Today I'm working in my studio and I thought it would be nice to share these photos with you so you can see where I work. We've converted a spare bedroom into an office which I share with my husband and I've put a large work table by the window so I can use it to cut glass. It's actually a pretty nice place to work since I can bounce back and forth between the work table and the computer as needed. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">My kiln however, lives in the kitchen on a rolling cart next to the sliding glass door. For some reason, I wasn't too keen about putting the kiln in a room with carpet and the sliding door provides good ventilation should I need it.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv42phJVvB-DeGApfISDEysfYX-jj4WuaFGIX3h2T_hsYICkgbyVzPNh_Malab9KjOC8KzrPkk5e3h_dx16WIlgos06Be5CDMmlSezRTMSn9DRd7As9Wa6McrwVuO7AmSuoWI3gy0C9tZl/s1600-h/IMG_4412.JPG"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv42phJVvB-DeGApfISDEysfYX-jj4WuaFGIX3h2T_hsYICkgbyVzPNh_Malab9KjOC8KzrPkk5e3h_dx16WIlgos06Be5CDMmlSezRTMSn9DRd7As9Wa6McrwVuO7AmSuoWI3gy0C9tZl/s320/IMG_4412.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5340612683480810882" style="float: left; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 213px; " /></a><div style="text-align: left;">Isn't it cute? It's just a table top version and it runs on a regular household outlet, but it's perfect for me. I can run a couple of firings in a day if needed and it never takes long for me to make enough things to fill it up! Not too big, and not too small - yet. They say kilns are addictive but I really like the versatility of this one. Ours was a success with one of my husband's teams winning the tournament championship in their division and having generally nice weather for the whole weekend. Now we're back to the grindstone and today I've posted another item in <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5856708">my Etsy shop</a> in my new line called Cocktail Jewelry. It's a cute little bracelet that is perfect for the martini lover you know. Like many of you, today I'll be catching up on several fronts but I'm most excited about getting some new pieces into the kiln. I haven't made anything in a little over 2 weeks and it will be good to be back in the swing of things. So keep your eyes open for some new things from me and have a great (and short) week ahead!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><a href="javascript:window.location = 'http://www.socialmarker.com/?link='+encodeURIComponent (location.href)+'&title='+encodeURIComponent( document.title);"><img border="0" src="http://www.socialmarker.com/bookmark.gif"/></a><noscript><a href="http://www.socialmarker.com">Social Bookmarking</a></noscript></div>KeeperEdgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04429714120001588915noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-725508993299322222.post-27461882402977887532009-05-22T11:13:00.003-05:002009-05-22T11:37:21.093-05:00Ready for a Busy Weekend?I had better be! My husband is a competitive youth soccer coach and every Memorial Day weekend his club hosts a big tournament. He's coaching three teams so he'll be coaching as many as five games a day on Saturday, Sunday and Monday - not to mention the other games that he'll want to watch in between! Needless to say, we'll be at the soccer fields from sun up to sun down all weekend long. Why do I go, you ask? When it's one of these marathon weekends usually I don't. But Memorial Day weekend is a little bit different. The weather is nice, people are in a good mood because they've got some extra time off and for me it's the kick-off to summer. So today will be filled with errand running, cooler and car packing and laundry. But tomorrow, as busy as it will be, I'll be enjoying the sun and breathing in the first breaths of summer - even if it is in a sea of thousands of people, we'll all be doing the same thing.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><a href="javascript:window.location = 'http://www.socialmarker.com/?link='+encodeURIComponent (location.href)+'&title='+encodeURIComponent( document.title);"><img border="0" src="http://www.socialmarker.com/bookmark.gif"/></a><noscript><a href="http://www.socialmarker.com">Social Bookmarking</a></noscript></div>KeeperEdgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04429714120001588915noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-725508993299322222.post-46244593460310507982009-05-21T10:45:00.006-05:002009-05-21T11:17:02.900-05:00For the Love of Martinis - Cocktail Jewelry<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi48CsmPeNgrEpFKaiHZiriJLyNfeV4OvOaXP7D_fewuXvvCOldSn4yOWzpBvPQSz13kjaO-gM8Gqhy0rEs5P5_KbUt8DIqQDg4UQaYh5bxDhlgLavsD4guGBp2V3voM7qSCzJkE9OJ7SjL/s1600-h/Etsy+Photos+5.20.09.6.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi48CsmPeNgrEpFKaiHZiriJLyNfeV4OvOaXP7D_fewuXvvCOldSn4yOWzpBvPQSz13kjaO-gM8Gqhy0rEs5P5_KbUt8DIqQDg4UQaYh5bxDhlgLavsD4guGBp2V3voM7qSCzJkE9OJ7SjL/s200/Etsy+Photos+5.20.09.6.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5338306438197558610" /></a>I'm excited to have listed the first piece in a new line of jewelry in <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5856708">my Etsy shop</a>. For quite a while I've been making pieces that look like olives and have been thinking I could start making a whole line of cocktail inspired pieces. Then I realized I have been doing it for a while and didn't even realize it. In the coming days you'll see more pieces of Cocktail Jewelry appearing in my shop. Most of the pieces are inspired by my favorite cocktail - the Dirty Martini. But you'll see others make an appearance as well. What's your favorite cocktail? Maybe you'll inspire me to make something new!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><a href="javascript:window.location = 'http://www.socialmarker.com/?link='+encodeURIComponent (location.href)+'&title='+encodeURIComponent( document.title);"><img border="0" src="http://www.socialmarker.com/bookmark.gif"/></a><noscript><a href="http://www.socialmarker.com">Social Bookmarking</a></noscript></div>KeeperEdgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04429714120001588915noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-725508993299322222.post-80436052516362626382009-05-20T14:42:00.002-05:002009-05-20T14:51:37.965-05:00Look Out Folks - I'm On a Roll!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbFrSHinWHXBOaXe9muyP2aAp0wQOFeixlChuVldlfgOUMX2Yk713lwGFCbTe2y8Caz5gLKYjV5y24uNWL-v2QcAtry77J_awc5B45MjSzdN0ixFasVOj3JvixSbkk1Dxat2tnjErrCuLf/s1600-h/Etsy+Photos+5.19.0916.jpg"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 133px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbFrSHinWHXBOaXe9muyP2aAp0wQOFeixlChuVldlfgOUMX2Yk713lwGFCbTe2y8Caz5gLKYjV5y24uNWL-v2QcAtry77J_awc5B45MjSzdN0ixFasVOj3JvixSbkk1Dxat2tnjErrCuLf/s200/Etsy+Photos+5.19.0916.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5337994063230188962" /></a><div style="text-align: left;">That's right, I listed TWO more items in <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5856708">my shop</a> today - you'll have to go over there to check them out. I'm particularly happy with the dragonfly pendant shown here. I had robbed us of our main work table a few weeks ago to use it in my art show booth and we decided to try and find something that better suits our needs rather than put it back. Sooo, off to Office Depot we went last night and we got a great L-shaped desk with lots of work space. It took us until 2 AM to get everything set up, but this morning I was able to go through everything that had been accumulating since we took the other table out and boy do I feel better! Isn't it amazing what clearing a little clutter can do for your state of mind? </div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><a href="javascript:window.location = 'http://www.socialmarker.com/?link='+encodeURIComponent (location.href)+'&title='+encodeURIComponent( document.title);"><img border="0" src="http://www.socialmarker.com/bookmark.gif"/></a><noscript><a href="http://www.socialmarker.com">Social Bookmarking</a></noscript></div>KeeperEdgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04429714120001588915noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-725508993299322222.post-19550431125988729962009-05-19T15:08:00.006-05:002009-05-19T15:21:58.373-05:00Finally Some New Items!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8NGnvpUXmuYNv6O3ejwo3CnARxd7KTq8yhaeUXopJkGYDtsU3juFAjDZ5cZiHCmh7v3URGuwBYHXWvVv8gsBfuyNI93g83laroixZebOtkfqoy0P4HqFc3NWa96CsgYG4jyJnEp395XiC/s1600-h/Etsy+Photos+5.19.096.jpg"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8NGnvpUXmuYNv6O3ejwo3CnARxd7KTq8yhaeUXopJkGYDtsU3juFAjDZ5cZiHCmh7v3URGuwBYHXWvVv8gsBfuyNI93g83laroixZebOtkfqoy0P4HqFc3NWa96CsgYG4jyJnEp395XiC/s200/Etsy+Photos+5.19.096.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5337631364624769634" /></a><div style="text-align: left; ">After several weeks of preparing for my first two outdoor shows ever I finally got some photos done today and listed some new items in <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5856708">my Etsy shop</a>! This one is from my second outdoor show which was two weekends ago at <a href="http://www.tjuc.org/joomla/index.php?Itemid=72&id=20&option=com_content&task=section">Art in the Arbor</a> in Louisville, KY. I decided the walls needed a little jazzing up so I had a couple of photos of my pieces blown up and put them in poster frames on two sides of my booth. I think the photos added a nice touch which made it easier for people to understand what I was selling without actually stepping into the booth. I also decided to bring a few different accessories to mix it up a little bit. In particular, I brought my 'wire lady' to hang one of my necklaces on. She is such a good display that some people have even tried to buy her from me! <div><br /></div><div>All in all it was a good show and I was happy with the function of my booth setup but there are still a few things I'd like to tinker with. I'll probably look to have a professional banner made with my shop name and some images of my work to hang across the back of the booth. And I'm planning on cleaning up my artist's statement and framing it alongside some photos of my studio so that people can understand me and my process a little bit better. What are some things that you've seen or done at art shows that you thought were particularly successful? I'd love to hear about them in the comments section here!</div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><a href="javascript:window.location = 'http://www.socialmarker.com/?link='+encodeURIComponent (location.href)+'&title='+encodeURIComponent( document.title);"><img border="0" src="http://www.socialmarker.com/bookmark.gif"/></a><noscript><a href="http://www.socialmarker.com">Social Bookmarking</a></noscript></div>KeeperEdgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04429714120001588915noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-725508993299322222.post-13528774829342032932009-05-15T09:35:00.007-05:002009-05-15T10:07:44.619-05:00My First Outdoor Booth - Artwalk 2009<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzyfPQWRVjCqDwfFrhKD_q5Ba9kYwRShosPAk77GAWLaohSC5ckuXjMqxikBnW9KiZ66hGF9tgXND5JBm3F7gTs278cMO9E4uvUJZZjweHGLQI6TERmzm6YpC4-7CvVB2pG2WJICk3Ji7J/s1600-h/IMG_4687.JPG"></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxO_NABZnffgWZXkmkvC4oWZAcHkc0QHtqGBoCRR_tjz3a31rSobDnCq_gOQjJ3v_1derY0HSCe80gCSMer5PCvTWqqu0ztyIwbkZT_kcu23DcoD76eajg1NJE89YH_almfYEY7wGqgb3C/s1600-h/IMG_4696.JPG" style="text-decoration: none;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><br /></span><img style="text-decoration: underline;display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px; " src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxO_NABZnffgWZXkmkvC4oWZAcHkc0QHtqGBoCRR_tjz3a31rSobDnCq_gOQjJ3v_1derY0HSCe80gCSMer5PCvTWqqu0ztyIwbkZT_kcu23DcoD76eajg1NJE89YH_almfYEY7wGqgb3C/s400/IMG_4696.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5336063010426649234" /></a><div style="text-align: left;">So I had my first outdoor art show a couple of weekends ago at the <a href="http://virgorisingpresents.com/artwalkpromenadebolingbrook.aspx">Artwalk at the Promenade Bolingbrook</a> and these are the photos of my first set-up. For my first time out, I think I did pretty well. I would like to have had some more levels to the display and want to 'loosen' it up a bit, but I did get lots of compliments and that was nice. The above photos shows the overall set-up with my pendants all displayed on the two tables on the left. I put the tables up on bed risers so that the pendants are higher and easier to see. On the right I set up a little checkout area on a card table so that people making purchases could select a necklace to go with their pendant, check out and I could wrap their packages.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); "><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiiQWdwM0OSf9KHDoL7ZnXpnoXLs16EU7E0bAytnGnRap5kI10hwRXM1vcIsJmKe7fyLc28LnSnKo4ee0b7oNdwoOLKMR_8xVJFxUQqKmWy7lPcK_E8lv5gI3ENxvHjNP7xHZXK597Q5AC/s400/IMG_4690.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5336063016229523890" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px; " /></span></div><div>I used a mixture of jewelry trays and wood and ceramic trays with risotto and black beans to display the pendants. I think a lot of the pendants show up better in the rice and beans and people always comment about what a neat way that is to display them.</div><div><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); "><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzyfPQWRVjCqDwfFrhKD_q5Ba9kYwRShosPAk77GAWLaohSC5ckuXjMqxikBnW9KiZ66hGF9tgXND5JBm3F7gTs278cMO9E4uvUJZZjweHGLQI6TERmzm6YpC4-7CvVB2pG2WJICk3Ji7J/s400/IMG_4687.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5336063019600742482" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px; " /></span></div><div>They say that when you do something for the first time you learn exponentially and I couldn't agree more. Just last weekend I had my second show and already instituted a few improvements. Setting up the booth itself was a snap because I knew exactly what I needed to do to attach the side walls. Another handy tip I learned by watching more seasoned show attendees was to roll up my sidewalls before detaching them. Then you don't have to fight them and the wind to fold them up and store them.</div><div><br /></div><div>I'll post the photos from last weekend soon so you can see the changes I've already made. As a member of the <a href="http://www.cgge.org/">Creative Glass Guild of Etsy</a> I've met some of these people and one of them, Yvonne, has been nice enough to <a href="http://artglassbyym.blogspot.com/2009/05/meet-natasha-of-artsdesireglass.html">feature me on her blog</a>! A big thanks to this Etsy friend! It has provided a sense of calm in times of distress and understanding in times of confusion. I hope that by sharing it, it can do the same for you.<div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Desiderata</div><div style="text-align: center;">by Max Ehrmann</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" ;font-family:Times;"><p align="CENTER"><span style="font-size:+1;">Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, <br />and remember what peace there may be in silence.</span></p><p align="CENTER"><span style="font-size:+1;">As far as possible, without surrender, <br />be on good terms with all persons. <br />Speak your truth quietly and clearly; <br />and listen to others, <br />even to the dull and the ignorant; <br />they too have their story. <br />Avoid loud and aggressive persons; <br />they are vexatious to the spirit.</span></p><p align="CENTER"><span style="font-size:+1;">If you compare yourself with others, <br />you may become vain or bitter, <br />for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. <br />Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. <br />Keep interested in your own career, however humble; <br />it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.</span></p><p align="CENTER"><span style="font-size:+1;">Exercise caution in your business affairs, <br />for the world is full of trickery. <br />But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; <br />many persons strive for high ideals, <br />and everywhere life is full of heroism. <br />Be yourself. I just got busy sending in applications to spring and summer shows, working on a new line of pendants and trying to get a handle on life in general. The good news is that I've gotten into several of the shows that I applied to and am waiting to hear back on others, I've come out with a new line that I'm really proud of and I've managed to gain control of some other household things that has made my life happier and easier.<div><br /></div><div>I'll be posting some stories on my upcoming shows soon, but more than anything I wanted to share the new things I've been working on! Back in February I posted about the work of <a href="http://artsdesireglass.blogspot.com/2009/02/monday-motivation-piet-mondrian-painter.html">Piet Mondrian</a> and some things started to percolate. By the end of the month, I began to experiment with these ideas and tried them out on a few friends and at a couple of local craft shows. I got some great feedback and I've decided to start producing these pieces as my first formal line - B L O C K S!</div><div><br /></div><div>B L O C K S is - quite obviously - directly inspired by the work of Piet Mondrian only these pieces are made entirely out of fused glass and presented as pendants. Each pendant is unique in it's execution and because of the organic qualities of the glass, they cannot be exactly reproduced. To see more B L O C K S visit my <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5856708">Etsy shop</a> where I'll be posting new pieces as they are made.</div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><a href="javascript:window.location = 'http://www.socialmarker.com/?link='+encodeURIComponent (location.href)+'&title='+encodeURIComponent( document.title);"><img border="0" src="http://www.socialmarker.com/bookmark.gif"/></a><noscript><a href="http://www.socialmarker.com">Social Bookmarking</a></noscript></div>KeeperEdgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04429714120001588915noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-725508993299322222.post-4448882176588619022009-02-24T15:46:00.003-06:002009-02-24T16:35:35.960-06:00Monday Motivation - Edvard Munch - Painter/Printmaker<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGmxV2V-AByUmRe46hqlg_dKFRKKOInST2VrVI6GPlSzUj-1lYSXt7Rb2cLYbcQP_NUmzJ3nSo_KU9ENMh2krLyQuW7sM9lUs27W4ziDFuVv-y5Q3Q5ZtnNpnUaZ_qe2JaXCdCIrhCjKKH/s1600-h/240px-Edvard_Munch_-_Madonna_(1894-1895).jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 312px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGmxV2V-AByUmRe46hqlg_dKFRKKOInST2VrVI6GPlSzUj-1lYSXt7Rb2cLYbcQP_NUmzJ3nSo_KU9ENMh2krLyQuW7sM9lUs27W4ziDFuVv-y5Q3Q5ZtnNpnUaZ_qe2JaXCdCIrhCjKKH/s320/240px-Edvard_Munch_-_Madonna_(1894-1895).jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5306484307224179170" /></a>This week's Monday Motivation is a day late, but I hope you'll find the featured artist inspiring nonetheless. On Friday, my husband and I decided to take a trip to <a href="http://www.artic.edu/aic/">The Art Institute of Chicago</a>. We've been living outside of the city for a full year and have not made our way to the museum yet. This is a strange thing for me since I made an annual trip with my mother all the way through high school and it's one of my favorite places in Chicago. But when I learned that admission to the museum is free and that tickets to the new <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edvard_Munch">Munch</a> exhibit are half off through the month of <a href="http://www.artic.edu/aic/visitor_info/feb_free_days.html">February</a>, I decided it was time we made the trip. My husband had never been and it was a great inaugural visit. <div><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic;"><a href="http://www.artic.edu/aic/collections/exhibitions/Munch/index">Becoming Edvard Munch: Influence, Anxiety and Myth</a> </span>opened on Valentine's Day and runs through April 26th. The exhibit counters the widely held belief that Munch was mentally unstable or that he was not influenced by his Scandinavian peers. Paintings and prints by Munch are displayed side-by-side with the work of artists like <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claude_Monet">Claude Monet</a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Klinger">Max Klinger</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Ensor">James Ensor</a>. It's a fantastic in-depth look at an artist who spent his career finding ways to express intense emotions through his work. If you have an opportunity to go, I very much recommend it. Munch's work is raw and emotional and his story is told well through his own hand. When he attempted to explain his artistic theory, he said this: "I believe that it is possible that, through horizontal and vertical lines constructed with awareness, but not with calculation, led by high intuition, and brought to harmony and rhythm, these basic forms of beauty, supplemented if necessary by other direct lines or curves, can become a work of art, as strong as it is true." You see, I've been having a bit of a hard time with inspiration the last couple of weeks. Everything I do seems too calculated or formulaic. This week, I'm going to let Piet be my guide and I'm going seek out that harmony and rhythm through my own sense of awareness and intuition. His work is varied; there is something for everyone. As a founder of the <a href="http://www.pilchuck.com/">Pilchuck Glass School</a>, glass artists all over the world have learned about their craft because of him. Furthermore, he has been the leading force in revolutionizing the modern Studio Glass movement. He has exploded the boundaries of the medium and established a collaborative technique that is unparalleled.<div><br /></div><div>Take a look at some of Chihuly's work. Which pieces do you like the best? The <a href="http://www.chihuly.com/seaforms/selsea.html">Seaforms</a>? The <a href="http://www.chihuly.com/macchia/selmac.html">Macchia</a>? What about the <a href="http://www.chihuly.com/installations/">Installations</a> or <a href="http://www.chihuly.com/chands/selchand1.html">Chandeliers</a>? They are all so different, yet his fascination with color, light and transparency are evident in all of them. As you go about your week, challenge yourself to break new ground and try something you've never tried before. Chihuly's work shows us the wonderful things that can happen when you do. His work reminds us that things are not always what they seem. Yes people, what you're looking at here is glass. William Morris is a uniquely talented glassblower who can transform a delicate, fragile medium into something that it isn't: rough, solid and full of texture. His pieces resemble artifacts from an ancient past, beckoning us to learn more about where they came from. I encourage you to take a closer look at some of <a href="http://www.wmorris.com/home.php?id=artbottom">Billy's work</a> and as you go about your week challenge yourself to look beneath the surface and see the true beauty of the things around you.
